Cisco shelf Call Connect for Nokia Platforms

Cisco shelf Call Connect for Nokia Platforms

After years of aligning themselves alongside Nokia with regards to Enterprise voice access, Cisco it seems have fallen out of love with them. Today saw the official end of sale of the Nokia Intellisync Call Connect platform, which turned Nokia handsets into WiFi enabled phones capable of interfacing with Cisco’s enterprise telephony products.

The rationale behind this can’t be too hard to guess; Nokia’s market slide, coupled to them using Windows Mobile for their next generation of hardware means that the Symbian based Call Connect platform is no longer relevant to today’s enterprises. Once heralded as a flag ship application by Nokia and Cisco, it’s something of an ignominious exit as it shuffles off the stage having made little to no market penetration.

Cisco are still heavily active in this space with versions of Jabber being available for Android and iPhone which turn your smartphone into a full function Cisco WiFi handset. Blackberry users can also come to the party, although in a much more complicated manner, as it requires the installation of Blackberry MVS server alongside BES. Whilst it works ok, the complexity of the Blackberry solution seems to be a real inhibitor to adoption, and from what we have seen is yet another nail in the enterprise coffin for RIM.

Symantec recommend disabling of PC Anywhere

Symantec recommend disabling of PC Anywhere

Symantec have today advised customers to stop using, and disable PC Anywhere whilst serious security issues are patched.

The full article is available here

The issues seem to stem from the theft of some of Symantec’s source code by unknown hackers. As a result, it seems that attacks are available which bypass the inbuilt authentication controls within PC Anywhere and allow remote control of a device to unauthorized users.

This is the first time we’ve ever heard of a vendor recommending the disabling of its products whilst security issues are fixed, so this seems to indicate that this is a severe and serious risk. At the current time, Symantec are not estimating when fixed software will be available.

PC Anywhere is also bundled in several of Symantec’s other products including Altiris Client Management Suite, Altiris IT Management Suite 7.0 or later, and Altiris Deployment Solution with Remote 7.1. As a result, it should be disabled in those products too.

Twitter much more than social …

Twitter can be used to receive news, follow high-profile celebrities, or stay in-touch with old high school friends.

But its popularity can be intimidating — if you don’t know how to use Twitter in 2019, should you even bother trying to join the masses who’ve acquired years of experience on the site?

Fortunately, Twitter is incredibly easy to use. Here, we’ll cover what Twitter is, who uses Twitter, and how you can get started on the site, today.

Over half of the world’s population uses social media. But the concept of “social media” is quite fragmented. Different platforms have arisen catering to different demographics with preferences for different mediums. For example, a platform like Twitter specializes in written posts and caters to a broad swath of age groups, particularly Millennials, whereas a platform like TikTok specializes in short videos and caters more to Gen Z.

TikTok is a particularly interesting platform and now you can get tiktok views buy for more possibility of followers and to boost your account. As a younger platform at the time of this writing, it’s short video-based content differs quite a bit from the more text- and image-based content of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit. It’s content also skews toward a younger generation, with comedy, dancing, and lip-syncing the most popular types of videos uploaded.

With such glaring differences between platforms, it makes us wonder what people think about certain platforms and their users. For example, older critics may question TikTok users’ interest in funny videos and raise eyebrows at its ownership by a Chinese firm. However, younger users may question Twitter users’ desire to post one’s thoughts and life details on a very public platform. Interestingly, despite some of the negative press against TikTok, the platform boasts over 1 billion monthly active users compared to Twitter’s 330 million.
